A Letter to Coaches — Part II
By John Milstead
November 25th, 2009

In Part I, John complained that coaches were not sending us their players so we could train them as officials. He showed that local associations need far more recruits than they are getting.

Part of the reason for the shortage is the behavior of the coaches, players, and fans.

NFHS Begins Certifying Interscholastic Coaches
By National Federation
November 16th, 2009

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (November 16 2009) - The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has launched a national certification program for interscholastic coaches with the Level 1 Accredited Interscholastic Coach certificate.

To become certified by the NFHS, a coach must take three required professional development courses online - Fundamentals of Coaching, First Aid for Coaches or its equivalent and a sport-specific course or Teaching Sport Skills - and complete an application online at www.nfhslearn.com. The cost of Level I certification is $50.

Editor's note: We know that this is the busiest time for the National Federation, and they keep everyone abreast of their work. As a daily source of sports officiating information, we believe in getting the news out .

We know that a goodly number of our subscribers are (gasp!) coaches. We're sure the NFHS will slow down as we approach the holidays, which means we'll certainly get back to our "two-a-days" soon.
