elcome back. You’ll recall from Part I that Mark got his officiating start while attending college. That initial introduction was with basketball, but as you’ll see later, he didn’t just stick with one sport.
Officiating.com: What was your training [to be an official] like?
LeFlore: As a member of the Nebraska-Iowa Referee Association (NIRA), my training began with the supervisor of assignments, Tom Evers. There were field and classroom training, registration with the NSAA (Nebraska State Activities Association), and working team scrimmages. That occurred before I officiated any games, and during the first three games I worked, I was evaluated.
I eventually became the trainer for basketball and football (for NIRA). I also was the Supervisor of Assignments for NIRA from 1986 to 1989, scheduling JV, subvarsity, and youth games. I also assigned city league officials for the recreation centers.
