Officiating.com: There's always a question about where to draw the line when it comes to "conflict of interest" or "bias." Were there ever situations where you had to decline a game assignment, etc., because you had a conflict of interest?
LeFlore: Over the years there were occasions when I officiated my children in sports activities. Keep in mind that I was a director at the Miller Park YMCA for seven years and a director at both the Boy Scouts and the Boys & Girls Clubs in Omaha for several years. During times of necessity, whatever the sport, I at one time or another had to pick up the whistle and call the game, primarily because others knew I was an official and that meant they did not have to fill in to referee.
It’s important to note that when my children began playing school-sponsored sports, my focus was on ensuring that they knew the rules, supporting the coaches and encouraging sportsmanship.
