Bottom line

1. Muscles need exercise, and not just for strength. Muscle-strengthening exercises will also increase stamina (duration) and energy (cardiovascular), which lead to a decrease in injuries and "aches and pains," especially the types suffered by officials.

2. Muscles need to be challenged, and performance in an activity by itself will not challenge them. Football offensive linemen don't get stronger arms by playing the game; officials don't get stronger legs by running up and down the court, the field, or from the infield to the outfield. Strengthening muscles, as professionals have long known, takes additional work outside the activity.

So, once again...

Let's get into those loose fitting clothes, put on some suitable shoes, and grab a couple of dumbbells. (No, I'm not referring to coaches.)
